The past week in my blog has really been about memes. I didn’t plan it that way it just kind of happened.

Monday: It’s Monday What Are You Reading

Tuesday: Top Ten Tuesday

Wednesday:  Wishlist Wednesday

Friday: Book Beginnings

Saturday: Book Review Chasing Paris By Jen Carter

I received Men We Reaped : A Memoir By Jesmyn Ward from firstreads on goodreads.

17286683

I have had Salvage The Bones by Jesmyn ward on my TBR for quite some time. When I saw this on goodreads as a firstreads giveaway I jumped at the chance to have it.  It won’t be a pleasant, easy , or happy read but I have heard good things about it.  This book is about Jesmyn Ward loosing 5 men in her life over the course of just 5 years.  This book has the potential to be really emotional because I can already see some parallels between my family the things she writes about. I am hoping to get to this in the next couple weeks.

I checked out 2 books from my local library first up

Warrior Princess: My Quest to Become the First Female Masai Warrior By Mindy Budgor

16056213

Umm I am about 50 pages into this and I have really mixed feelings.  It’s basically about Mindy who goes to Kenya and attempts to become the first female Masai warrior.. Spoiler alert she becomes one.  It’s been described as funny and inspirational, I can’t attest to either one at the moment but I don’t hate the writing style and she is kind of entertaining in a self-obsessed narcissistic way. Perhaps that changes as the book progresses otherwise I may not want to finish it. In the event that I do finish it I will likely do a review.

Come Hell Or Highwater: Hurricane Katrina And The Color Of Disaster By Michael Eric Dyson

586517

This book is all about hurricane Katrina, the aftermath, and how race played a part.  After Katrina I read tons of articles, op-eds, and news pieces but I have  yet to read a book about it.  I don’t think I will be surprised by either  Dyson’s opinions or conclusions but I think I will get something out of this anyway. I tried to find this in audio format by my library didn’t have it. Dyson narrates and I really love his voice and wanted to hear him read it.

I am in the middle of 3 other books at the moment

Sula By Toni Morrison which I am really liking

The Princess Bride By William Goldman which I am not loving like I thought I would

Death Benifit By Robin Cook which I am almost done with and is classic Cook.

I will definitely be doing a review of Sula and The Princess Bride

I came across Lisa from  Bookshelf Fantasies  after she commented on one of my posts. Thanks to her I have come across several book memes including The Sunday Post . You can check out her book blog meme directory.

That’s all I have on this lovely Sunday.

Hope your Sunday is wonderful and let me know what you will be reading, reviewing and blogging about this upcoming week.

Until Next Time

Inspired by Pop Culture Junkie and the Story Siren, the aim of Showcase Sunday is to highlight our newest books or book related swag and to see what everyone else received for review, borrowed from libraries, bought in bookshops and downloaded onto eReaders each week – See more at: http://www.booksbiscuitsandtea.co.uk/#sthash.0K1PkdwL.dpuf
