WishList Wednesday

Wishlist Wednesday

Wishlist Wednesday is a book blog hop where we will post about one book per week
that has been on our wishlist for some time, or just added (it’s entirely up to
you), that we can’t wait to get off the wishlist and onto our wonderful shelves.

So what do you need to do to join in?

  • Follow Pen to Paper as host of the meme.
  • Please consider adding the blog hop button to your blog somewhere, so others can find it easily and join in too! Help spread the word! The code will be at the bottom of the post under the linky.
  • Pick a book from your wishlist that you are dying to get to put on your shelves.
  • Do a post telling your readers about the book and why it’s on your wishlist.
  • Add your blog to the linky at the bottom of this post.
  • Put a link back to pen to paper (http://www.pentopaperblog.com) somewhere in your post, and a note saying that Pen to Paper is the host of the meme.
  • Visit the other blogs and enjoy!

So I have many books on my wish list as I am sure most of you do too.  The thing with me is there are books I want to read and then there are books I want to own. Let me explain. I love murder/mystery/thrillers that have a female detective protagonist but, I never feel like I want to own them. I generally check these out from the library and if possible I get them in audio book form. I have listened to the entire Kinsey Milhone series, V.I Warshawski series, and Agatha Raisin series as well as lots of stand alones but, even when I find them in used book stores I don’t pick them up. While I loved these I felt like I wanted something else and that is a Black woman as the lead. This is almost non-existent in books anyway, but to try to find the books at my library wasn’t happening. So thanks to some hunting on the internet and  goodreads I came across the thing I think I have been looking for the Tamara Hayle series by Valerie Wilson Wesley.  So of course I went to my library but they didn’t have them in audio format and they didn’t have the whole series in physical books. So I decided I wanted to own them instead. They are not the kind of book I usually purchase but something about them says “Own Me” so I am giving in.

Check out the first book below

Tamara Hayle, former cop turned PI, is a single mom trying to make it on her own on the mean streets of Newark. When her “dog” of an ex-husband, the father of her son, shows up like a bad penny, she can’t turn down his plea for help. For no apparent reason, somebody is killing his sons, one by one, and the police are less than concerned about it: Black men killing one another, nobody seems to give a damn. It’s up to Tamara to find the killer – before death comes stealing her only child. Valerie Wilson Wesley has created a smart, sexy, knowing heroine unlike any readers have met before. With wry humor and a keen sense of urban life, Wesley imbues Tamara Hayle with the true grit and feminine wiles that make her an enduring character, whom readers will love discovering, and whose next appearance they will eagerly await. (synopsis from goodreads)

It sounds like the exact book for me. A female detective and she’s black to boot. I think this will be the next book purchase I make. And, if I love it like I think I will then I can begin to purchase the others until I have them all!

Until Next Time
