Book Challenge

2016 The Challenges

I am not someone who does well with hard and fast bookish rules. I do like them in other areas of my life but not in books. Having said that I do enjoy a good challenge. I think book challenges can be really inspiring and open you up to new authors books and blogs/bloggers. So here are the challenges I am going to try and participate in. I may add or subtract from this list at any time. This is the for right now list. Click the Pics for the original posts.

  2. In your post, don’t forget to include the button/banner, link back to our sign up page, the level you are aiming for, and – if you want – a list of books you’re hoping to read for the challenge.
  3. Place the challenge button in your sidebar (please use the grab link at the bottom of the post) if that’s your thing.
  4. That’s it! You’re done! Welcome to the challenge, stay tuned for lots of fun! And most importantly, good luck with tackling your TBR Pile

I don’t own a ton of books I haven’t read but I would like to read the ones I have. I do have an extensive TBR (don’t we all) of books I might buy or check out from the library that I want to get to. So this is not rigid or strict and I don’t want any pressure it’s all for fun.

Welcome to the 2016 Monthly Motif Reading Challenge! For this challenge, each month is assigned a certain motif or theme. Your task is to read one book per month that fits in with the motif for that particular month. If you participated in this challenge last year you’ll see that some of the motifs are the same while others have been changed up or switched around.

Below is a participation linky. Please link up to your Monthly Motif Introduction blog post. If you don’t write a blog, link up to your Goodreads profile page.

On the first of each month I’ll be checking in with you and putting up a new linky for you to link your reviews for that month to. It will remain open until the 10th of the following month. So the first linky for the Who Dunnit? Motif in January will be open from January 1-February 10.

The Motifs

JANUARY- Who Dunnit?
Crack the case and solve the mystery with your first book of the year.

FEBRUARY- New Releases
Read a book released in the last year.

MARCH- Take a Trip
Time Travel or read a book set in a country different than where you live

APRIL- Best of the Best
Read a book that has won recognition or a literary award

MAY- Story of Survival
Make it out alive, beat the odds, save yourself stories. Try thinking beyond the typical wilderness survival. Surviving high school? Surviving a family road trip? Yep- those count too! PS. Dystopians would work great in this motif too.

JUNE- Girlxoxo Recommends
We’ve read a lot of great books. Check out our archives and pick one of our recommendations off our book lists.

JULY- LOL
Hilarious memoirs, silly chick lit, comedic scifi. Pick a book that is guaranteed to make you laugh out loud.

AUGUST- Genre Jumble
Read from a genre that you don’t normally read from

SEPTEMBER- Steampunk, Science Fiction, and Fantasy
Pretty self explanatory and loads of great books to pick from in this motif.

OCTOBER- Things That Go Bump in The Night
Cozy mystery ghost stories, paranormal creeptastic, murder mystery- it’s up to you!

NOVEMBER- Fiction Takes A Break
It’s all about Nonfiction November this month!

DEC- That’s a Wrap
Finish a series you’ve been meaning to finish or read the next book in a series you started but never finished.

Thanks for joining and have fun!

And the last challenge I have my eye on right now is being hosted by BookRiot called

The 2016 Book Riot Read Harder Challenge click to read all about it.

That’s all I’ve got right now. The great thing is these challenges can all work well together. There should be some overlap. Like I said before I’m not really hear for rules when it comes to reading. These are just for fun and if I complete any of them or none of them I just want to have a good time.

So are you joining any challenges this year? Any good ones I’ve missed out on?

Until Next Time

  1. Iʻm visiting from girlxoxo…doing both of these challenges as well! Iʻm doing a few others as well that Iʻm pretty excited about, like the PopSugar challenge. Iʻm hoping these challenges will help me read a bigger variety of books next year.

Canʻt wait to keep up with your reads! Good luck!

    1. I took a look at the popsugar challenge and decided to add it. It seems to work well with the motif challenge. I’m excited and look forward to checking out your reads too!
